Lael Grant Memorial Scholarship
Lael Grant was born on April 2, 1979, in Sitka, Alaska. Just days after her birth, she returned by float plane to her hometown of Pelican, Alaska, where she spent her early childhood. At the age of four, her family relocated back to Sitka when her father began working as a tender captain for Sitka Sound Seafoods.
Lael spent most of her life in Sitka, where she built lasting friendships and enjoyed playing softball in her youth. As an adult, she was known for her warm personality and many passions, including baking, gardening, cooking, and exploring the outdoors through hiking and adventure. She was a devoted plant enthusiast and loved creating comfort and beauty in her home and kitchen.
Lael worked as a phlebotomist at Sitka Community Hospital, where she cared deeply about the patients and community she served. Above all else, she was most proud of her two sons, whom she raised with love and dedication in Sitka.
Lael’s life was tragically interrupted by her unexplained disappearance on October 12, 2012. She is remembered for her vibrant spirit, infectious laugh, deep love for her family, and the lasting impact she had on those around her.
